Heughan House extension
Work is to start on the renovations and extension to the rear of Heughan House on 8th November.
Funds are now secured, with huge support from South of Scotland Enterprise providing 49% of the project cost. Other major donors include Dumfries and Galloway council, Garfield Weston, and the Children’s Lottery. There is still time for local residents to contribute, this would the amount of a small loan which is needed to achieve the funding level required.
Play areas
The Initiative and residents have been highlighting problems with the Boredom Buster play area. A partnership has been developed to address these issues. The Initiative, the Community Council, Auchencairn Primary School, Scruffs Childcare and local residents are working to redesign and equip two areas in the village. This will include equipment designed for various abilities and needs.
Ideas from children, parents and members of the community who attended the October meeting have informed the funding applications for the repair of the basket swing, new playground equipment for younger children in the Community Garden and a sheltered area for young people in the Boredom Buster play area.
D&G Council are repairing and returning the basket swing on behalf of the partnership . They will also remove the unusable equipment which is currently fenced off.
Other projects
Apart from the work on the play areas and maintenance of
assets, no other projects were being taken on board until the Heughan House
extension was under way and into project management phase. Time would then be
available to source funding for other initiatives.
